Ogdensburg, NY — The Frederic Remington Art Museum’s “Consider This” program takes a closer look at Remington’s painting "Antoine's Cabin", 1890.

In the winter of 1889, Remington was feeling mentally exhausted from the demands of illustration. He and his friend, Julian Ralph, a journalist for the New York Sun, sat at a club in Manhattan and commiserated over wine and cigars. It was Remington who came up with a plan to cure their mental fatigue: a trip North!

“Consider This” is for all ability levels, and no art background is required. Participants simply need an interest in joining the conversation. A different artwork is featured each month, with two program sessions to choose from in July: Friday, September 13th at 12pm (at the Museum only), Tuesday, September 24th at 12pm (at the Museum and via Zoom).

Each session features 30 minutes of focused looking, consideration, conversation, and interpretation of the artwork. Programs are offered at noon, so that even working people can join the conversation during their lunch and bring art into their workday. Museum Experience Manager & Educator Julie Pratt and docents Anne Skelly, Kathy Crowe, will present two 30-minute lunchtime conversations about Remington’s nocturnes:

  • In person only: Friday, September 13th, at 12pm with Anne Skelly (at the Museum only)

  • Hybrid: Tuesday, September 24th at 12pm with Julie Pratt and Kathy Crowe (at the Museum and via Zoom)

Participation via Zoom is free; on-site participation is free with admission to the Museum, thanks to generous support of The Enchanted Edible Forest at Cross Island Farms. While walk-ins are welcome we do encourage participants to register for the session. For the hybrid session, zoom participants will be emailed a link.
