Things to know before you visit | Frederic Remington Art Museum

We are so thrilled that you are considering a visit! We want to make your time with us as enjoyable as possible. Here are some frequently asked questions that may help you prepare for your trip. If you have other questions please feel free to email or call the Museum!

  1. What is parking like at the Museum? Answer: There is free on-street parking directly in front of the Museum (around 6 spaces). If those spaces are full there is a large parking lot behind the Museum (on State Street) where you can park for free as well. Also, the Museum is located in a neighborhood that has free on-street parking so you should be able to find parking on one the of the side streets, as well.
  2. Is there a cafe in the Museum? Answer: The Museum has no cafe or cafeteria. There are several restaurants nearby that you could drive to. There is a diner just around the corner that you could walk to as well. In the summer months, you can bring your own lunch and enjoy it on our patio! There is no shade on the patio so plan accordingly for the weather.
  3. Do I have to buy admission tickets ahead of time? Answer: No, you can buy tickets when you enter the Museum. You can purchase tickets in advance if you would like. Just follow this link and search admission tickets.
  4. Do you have timed tickets? Answer: Nope! Just come whenever you want. We suggest giving yourself at least 1.5 hours to go through the whole museum.
  5. Do you allow bags in the Museum? Answer: You can carry small purses and small shoulder bags. We do not allow large bags and backpacks in the galleries. Our sculptures are not under glass so there are lots of ways to snag a bag on the artwork.
  6. Do you have lockers to put coats and bags in? Answer: No, we do not have lockers but you may leave bags and other items in the main lobby with the desk attendant.
  7. Do you allow water bottles and food in the Museum? Answer: You may bring water bottles into the Museum, however, they may not be brought into the main galleries. You may leave the water bottle outside the gallery or in the lobby and pick it up when you leave. We prefer food to be kept out of the Museum. However, you may bring food and eat on the patio during your visit.
  8. Do you allow animals in the Museum? Answer: Per NYS rules certified service animals are always allowed. All other animals, including emotional support animals, are not allowed.
  9. Is your museum handicapable accessible? Answer: Yes! We have a wheelchair ramp, an elevator to access to the second floor, and handicapable bathrooms. We also have two wheelchairs for public use.
