OGDENSBURG, NY - The Frederic Remington Art Museum’s 2018 New York State Juried Art Exhibition will open on Saturday, September 22nd, with a free public reception from 2 to 4 pm.The public is invited to come and meet the artists at the reception, see their excellent work, and have some fun at the Museum.

For this year’s exhibition, the Remington Museum received 99 images submitted by 34 artists. Juror Roger Bailey selected 35 works to be in the exhibition, including drawings, paintings, photographs, sculptures, and mixed media works. Bailey states, “It is my opinion that the work shown here is the result of ideas and exercises focused on challenging problems. The results seem to be labors of love. For me, the process of working is the most vital aspect of this exhibition.”

He continues, “It is great to see the diversity and the energy represented here. While the galleries and museums of New York City get plenty of attention, and involve big money, the work exhibited here at the Remington in Ogdensburg should not be taken lightly.”

The exhibition will be on display during the Museum’s fall season, continuing through into the new year and ending on Sunday, January 13th, 2019.

Many of the works on display will be for sale. One third of the proceeds benefit the Frederic Remington Art Museum, and two thirds go to the artist. The exhibit will have an online gallery at www.fredericremington.org.

The artists in the exhibition are: Georgette Bacon, Nicholville; Steven C. Cobb, Massena; John Elwood Cook, Wellesley Island; Stephen Cressey, Waddington; Ruth Crotty, Saratoga Springs; Kasarian Dane, Madrid; Gregg Fedchak, Boonville; Mark "Gig" Goldstein, Middleport; Gary Larsen, Edinburg; Suzanne Lebeda, South Colton;  Diane E. Leifheit, Paul Smiths; Anni Lorenzini, Chazy; Kathleen Mereand, Watertown; Lynda Mussen, Peru; George Osier, Ogdensburg; Beverly J. Patchin, Lisbon; Paul N. Pedersen, Hermon; Julie Pratt, Canton; Lynne Reichhart, Westernville; Ginny B. Schwartz, Canton; Eleanor Sweeney, Saranac Lake; Michiko Taylor, Potsdam; Kenneth Wiley, Saranac Lake; and Janet Marie Yeates, Northville.

The next opportunity for artists to enter a juried exhibit at the Museum is in the spring, for the 2019 Members’ Juried Art Exhibit. That exhibit is open to any member of the Museum; an artist who is not yet a Museum member may join when they enter their submissions.

The reception will also be the first official opportunity to take in the new Frederic Remington art installations in the Museum’s Newell Galleries. The Remington Museum has undertaken a year long art exchange with the Sid Richardson Museum in Fort Worth, Texas, and has showcased nine Remington masterpieces which offer new opportunities to appreciate Remington’s work and draw new connections between artworks never displayed together before. The Remington Museum has drawn from its collection to bring seldom seen works out on view, offering new context for the Sid Richardson Museum paintings.

During the September 22nd reception, at 3:00 pm, the Museum will offer its One Hour One Work program focusing upon Remington’s 1909 oil painting, The Love Call, on loan from the Sid Richardson Museum. The program offers the opportunity to explore the work in depth in a small-group discussion. To reserve a spot, call the Museum at 315-393-2425 or email desmond@fredericremington.org.
