Juror's Awards Announced at Remington Museum Exhibit Opening

Pictured: Toy Horse, by Paul N. Pedersen, oil on canvas, 2020, 30 x 36", won the “Best in Show” award for the 2020 Members’ Juried Art Exhibit at the Frederic Remington Art Museum. Juror Basia Goszczynska said of the painting, “I awarded Toy Horse with Best in Show because of its emotional impact. Through the thoughtful use of details and color, the artist conjures up an intimate nostalgia so often associated with cherished childhood toys and family heirlooms.”
Pictured: Midnight Marauders, by Eleanor Morgan, oil, 2018, 21 x 27", won the second place award for the 2020 Members’ Juried Art Exhibit at the Frederic Remington Art Museum. Juror Basia Goszczynska noted, “The compelling figures in Midnight Marauders draw us in to the mysterious narrative the artist creates for us.”

OGDENSBURG, NY - The Frederic Remington Art Museum’s 2020 Members’ Juried Art Exhibition opened on Friday, April 24. Because of the current need for social distancing, the exhibition is currently being presented in a digital format at www.fredericremington.org and on the Museum’s Facebook page. The exhibit includes 40 works by 31 artists, and will be on display until September 13, 2020. 

At the exhibition’s virtual opening reception, which took place via Zoom, juror Basia Goszczynska announced the prize winners selected from among the artworks included in the show. The third place prize went to Beach, by Drayton Jones, watercolor, 2020, 16 x 20”. The second place prize went to Midnight Marauders, by Eleanor Morgan, oil, 2018, 21 x 27". And “Best in Show” was awarded to Toy Horse, by Paul N. Pedersen, oil on canvas, 2020, 30 x 36".

The public is invited to view the exhibition online at www.fredericremington.org, and vote for an additional prize, the Public’s Choice award.One vote per person, please. At the end of the exhibition, on September 14, the winner of the Public’s Choice award will receive a museum wrapped canvas print of The End of the Day by Frederic Remington, ca. 1904.

Many of the works in the show are for sale. One third of the proceeds benefits the Frederic Remington Art Museum, and two thirds go to the artist. Happily, one of the artworks has already been sold since the opening last week. The online exhibition includes price information and a link to the Museum’s shop.

Upcoming artist-in-residence Basia Goszczynska, who served as juror for the exhibit remarked, “It was a real pleasure to review so many wonderful artworks for this year's Members' Juried Art Exhibit at the Remington Museum. I was impressed by the range of subjects and techniques represented in the submissions and made my final selections for the exhibition by choosing pieces that play off one another in interesting ways and that demonstrate the highest level of artistry. ”

The Museum hopes to mount a physical, on-site exhibit when it becomes possible to safely open the Museum.

The next opportunity for artists to enter a juried exhibit at the Museum is in the fall, for the 2020 New York State Juried Art Exhibit. That exhibit is open to any artist 18 years and older working within New York State.
