Holiday Open House at the Frederic Remington Art Museum
The Frederic Remington Art Museum invites the public to its Holiday Open House on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 10am to 4pm. Admission is $5. The event is generously sponsored by North Country Savings Bank. This is a wonderful time of year to visit the 100-year-old museum and enjoy the holiday ambiance and tradition of this important part of Ogdensburg and the North Country. Guests can enjoy the festive decorations, gallery exhibits, live holiday music, local vendors, and discounts in the Museum Shop.
From 11am to 1pm, local singer and songwriter Jaynie Trudell will perform in the Museum’s Tiffany Room. Her performance is generously sponsored by America 1 Realty. Jayne plays country blues, classic rock, and folk music.
North Country Connections Orchestra will follow, playing Christmas favorites and the opportunity for a sing a long from 2 to 4pm. The Orchestra is a combined group of multi-age and multi-level performers from various towns throughout St. Lawrence County. They will open with a reading of the Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg followed by well-known Christmas favorites including Angels We Have Heard On High, Hark! The Herald Angels, Jolly Old St. Nicholas, Deck the Halls, Up on the Housetop and Jingle Bells. Guests are encouraged to sing along. The finale includes fun pieces called Who Let the Elves Out? and Hallelujah Chorus.
The Museum Shop carries unique gifts including framed prints, bronze sculpture reproductions, art books, posters, clothing, and more. For the Holiday Open House, the Shop will be offering special discounts on select items in celebration of the season.
For holiday shoppers who are looking for presents with a local flavor, the event will feature a number of local artisans including St. Lawrence Soap Co., River Rat Designs, Attagirl Soaps, Bregg Winery, J. Hackett Cliff & Co., Curated Calm, Serenity Acres, Coyote Moon Vineyards, Grasse River Hemp, Not Your Average Cookie, Tom's Got Wood, Dark Island Spirits - Distillery, Eye Candy Jewelry, Art By Maria PP, Hen Island, and Newcombe's Maple Ridge.
Other local products carried in the Museum Shop include River House soap, books by local authors Jim Reagan, Diane LaRock, Barbara Briggs Ward, and Shari T. Mitchell, notecards by Pat Harrington, pottery ornaments and mugs by Young’s Studio & Gallery, Chippewa Creek Farm maple syrup, Flambō Candle Co. candles, and Paintings by Carol Backus.
The Frederic Remington Art Museum invites visitors to stroll through its galleries during the event. The Museum will have staff and docents on hand, prepared to answer questions about Frederic Remington and engage in conversation about his art. Visitors can also take a peek at the 2023 New York State Juried Art Exhibition in the Museum’s Richard E. Winter Gallery & Torrey Family Gallery. Many of the works on display are for sale with one third of the proceeds to benefit the Museum, and two thirds going to the artist. Art makes a great holiday gift!
Raffle tickets continue to be available to win a medium bronze reproduction of Frederic Remington's iconic first sculpture, The Broncho Buster. Tickets are a donation of $10 one chance or 3 for $20. The reproduction weighs 16 lbs. and measures 14" H with a $1,055 value. The winning ticket will be drawn at the Holiday Open House. The winner does not need to be present at the drawing to collect. Tickets can be purchased in the Museum lobby, online, or the day of the event.
