Holiday Open House at Remington Museum
OGDENSBURG, NY - The Frederic Remington Art Museum would like to invite the public to its Holiday Open House from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec 5th.
This is the time when the museum’s 1810 Parish Mansion feels most like a historic house museum, when it is decorated for the holidays. Admission is free. Stop in for our extended hours and enjoy the festive decorations, exhibits, holiday music, local vendors and discounts in the Museum Shop.
Beginning at 5 PM guests can enjoy the music of the North Country Connections Orchestra. The orchestra is a combined group of multi-age and multi-level performers from various towns throughout St. Lawrence County. The North Country Connections orchestra will be performing well-known Christmas carols, and other Christmas favorites such as Do You Hear What I Hear?, Greensleeves, selections from "The Nutcracker” and an orchestral version of the “Hallelujah Chorus”. From 6 to 6:30 PM community members are welcome to join in with a Christmas Carol Sing-A-Long with Lorie Gruneisen on the piano. Words sheets will be available.
The Museum will again be lining the halls with local vendors including unique, high quality handcrafted jewelry by My Corner Studio; Thousand Islands Winery with wine for taste testing and purchase; all natural and handmade soaps by Julie Pratt of Attagirl Soaps; cookies, jellies and jams by Not Your Average Cookie; handmade wood items created by Tom Questel of Tom's Got Wood; and Susan Langley of Second Chances attending with handmade fabric bags, totes and more. From 3 to 5 p.m. local author Barbara Briggs Ward will be signing copies of her Christmas Trilogy including The Reindeer Keeper, The Snowman Maker and The Candle Giver and her most recent book The Cookie Cutter. Books are always a great gift idea. The Museum Shop carries unique gifts including framed prints, books, ornaments featuring the iconic Broncho Buster and more. In-store discounts will be offered on select items in celebration of the season.
The public is invited to attend our “One Hour One Work” session occurring during the event at 3 p.m. This ongoing program is a chance for participants to slow down and dive deep into a single work of art on display at the Remington Museum. A Museum educator will facilitate 60 minutes of focused looking, consideration, conversation, and interpretation of Frederic Remington’s 1890 oil painting Antoine's Cabin. Reservations are requested in order to facilitate close looking and ease of conversation. To learn more or to register, call 315-393-2425 or email Museum Educator Laura Desmond.
Visitors can also take a peek at the 2019 New York State Juried Art Exhibition in the Richard E. Winter and Torrey Family Galleries. Purchase of art from this exhibit benefits both the artist and the museum.
