|College Student Juried Art Exhibit Opening at Remington Museum|
OGDENSBURG, NY - The Frederic Remington Art Museum’s 2022 College Student Juried Art Exhibition will open on Friday, February 25. The exhibit will be on view in the Museum’s Richard E. Winter Gallery and online at www.fredericremington.org. However, because of the ongoing need for social distancing, the opening reception for the exhibit will take place online via Zoom.
The public is invited to a special virtual reception on Friday, February 25 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm via Zoom. The reception offers an opportunity to view the entire group of artworks in the show, and to talk with the artists and the juror. If you would like to attend the virtual reception, please email Laura Desmond for a digital invitation. Everyone is welcome!
The College Student Juried Art Exhibit is open to students at four area colleges and universities: Clarkson University, St. Lawrence University, SUNY Plattsburgh, and SUNY Potsdam. For this year’s exhibition, juror Gregg Fedchak selected 20 works by 15 artists to be in the show, including paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, digital, and time-based works.
“I was delighted by the incredible variety of art submitted for this show,” Fedchak remarked. “These students are full-fledged artists now, and this show proves it. As they work and study they’ll find the creative life one of many roads and destinations. I hope the artists in this show will pursue their work with pleasure and with seriousness, and use it as the lens through which to process their lives.”
Juror Gregg Fedchak was born in Waverly, New York, and grew up in Athens, Pennsylvania and in Canton, New York. He is a former linguist and a graduate of St. Lawrence University. An abstract painter and a writer, Fedchak's short fiction has appeared in Midland Review, Buffalo Spree, Beloit Fiction Journal, and American Way, the in-flight magazine of American Airlines. He lives in Boonville, New York with his wife Elaine and a few extremely lucky sheep. A retrospective of Fedchak’s paintings can be viewed online on the Museum’s website www.fredericremington.org.
Many of the student works on display in the Remington exhibit will be for sale. One third of the proceeds benefits the Frederic Remington Art Museum, and two thirds go to the artists. In addition to the on-site exhibition, the exhibit will be online at www.fredericremington.org and artworks may be purchased through the Museum’s online shop.
The student artists in the exhibition are: Earl Barcomb, Kalen Bjerga, Reina Boyea, Hayley Castagnier, Roscoe Duquette, Victoria Ervin, Liv Gonia, Ayisha Idi Khalid, Kailey Maher, Wynter Malone, Titania McFarlane, Madison Mundy, Sophie Robie, Felicity Sarsfield, and Mollie Ward.
The exhibition will be on display through Sunday, March 27, 2022.
The next opportunity for artists to enter a juried exhibit at the Museum is in the spring, for the 2022 Members’ Juried Art Exhibit. That exhibit is open to any member of the Museum; an artist who is not yet a Museum member may join when they enter their submissions.
