OGDENSBURG, NY - The Frederic Remington Art Museum’s 2019 Members’ Juried Art Exhibition will open Saturday, May 18, with a public reception from 2 to 4 pm. The public is invited to come and meet the artists at the reception, see their excellent work, and have some fun at the Museum.

For this year’s exhibition, the Remington Museum received 125 images submitted by 50 artists. Some of these artists have been exhibiting at the Remington since the Museum began doing juried art exhibits in 2001, and some are participating for the first time. The Museum is proud to play a meaningful role in the artistic lives of its members, and is deeply grateful for their membership support.

Upcoming artist-in-residence Rich Fedorchak served as juror for the exhibit. He selected 50 works to be in the exhibition, which will run through the Museum's busy summer season, until September 15.

Fedorchak states, “It was an honor and pleasure to jury this year’s Members’ Exhibit at the Remington Museum. Never having visited Ogdensburg before, I quickly discovered that there is a very vibrant artistic community in the area. I was particularly impressed by the variety of mediums and styles that these artists employed in expressing their artistic visions. Because of the large number of works submitted for consideration and for the sake of equity, I decided to choose one piece from each of the artists who participated. Such a task is always highly subjective. Regrettably there were many fine works that were not selected. I look forward to my artist’s residency at the Museum in July and hope to meet some of the local artists while I am there.”

There will be a “best in show” prize of $100, second place prize of $75, and a third place prize of $50. The prizes will be announced during the opening reception at 3 pm.

At the end of the exhibition, on September 16, a “public’s choice” award, a museum wrapped canvas print of Remington’s Small Oaks, 1887, will be announced. Anyone can vote for their favorite artwork from May 18 until September 12, at the Museum, or on the website, www.fredericremington.org. One vote per person, please.

Many of the works on display will be for sale. One third of the proceeds benefits the Frederic Remington Art Museum, and two thirds go to the artist. The exhibit will have an online gallery at www.fredericremington.org.
