OGDENSBURG, NY -The Frederic Remington Art Museum will host its next Art Highlights & Tea Series on Wednesday, March 13, 2013.

For the past 15 years the program "Art Highlights and Tea” has been offered during the months of January, February, March and April. There is a program on an art related topic at 2 p.m. followed by the tea. The program is free to the public. The cost to attend the tea is $10 for members and $12 for non-members. The menu includes such items as scones, cake, fruit and many other sweet and savory foods. Each time the menu changes by the wishes of the volunteer coordinator and her committee.
The next Art Highlights and Tea Program will be held on Wednesday, March 13 2 p.m. Sue Longshore, Collections Manager, at the Silas Wright House will give a talk on "Vanished Arizona: Frederic Remington and Martha Summerhayes”. The tea follows at 3 p.m.
The March 13th tea will be held in the authentically decorated parlors in the extension of the museum. The menu for this month will include; a melon ball assortment, strawberry mini muffins, a blueberry tea bread placed on the top of the tier plates in the center of each of the 6 tea tables for four. The second tier will include chicken deviled eggs, cream cheese stuffed sugar snap peas and pinwheel and checkerboard tea sandwiches. The third tier will hold cream puffs, lemon squares and chocolate crinkle cookies. There will also be a delicious carrot cake. Of course there will be endless cups of tea. The tables are set with fine china and linens.
During the many years that the teas have been held at the Remington Art Museum the attendees have found it delightful to meet and dine and linger over tea. It can be indulgently nostalgic; a highlight of the day and the food is received with relish and disappears quickly.

OGDENSBURG, NY - The Frederic Remington art Museum is now marketing a limited edition hyper-accurate reproduction of Remington’s sculpture, The Broncho Buster.
It is a 3D laser scanned copy of original casting number 23 in the museum’s collection. Casting number 23 was created in Remington’s lifetime. Lifetime original castings are prized more highly in the collector’s market.
Engineers from Konica Minolta Sensing’s 3D Scanning Labs performed the non-contact, no-coating process required by the Museum. The finest details of Remington’s Broncho Buster were captured by the Range 7 3D scanner.
An original Broncho Buster has been on display in the White House Oval Office since 1976.
"This piece serves two major purposes, said executive director Ed LaVarnway, "first it makes the finest Remington reproduction possible available to serious collectors who will appreciate the very fine nuanced detail but are not able to spend several hundred thousand dollars on an original. Second, by making this reproduction available to the public we further the museum’s mission which includes fostering an appreciation for and an understanding of the artist by educating our audience in the visual arts, providing a context for Remington's art.”
The statuettes are offered at $8,000 and come with a certificate of authenticity.
A deposit of $2,000 is required to start the casting process which takes approximately 6 – 8 weeks. Only 50 casts of this bronze will be made after which the mold will be destroyed. For further information contact Stephanie Billington at 315-393-2425.

The washstand was hand built by Nicholas Scelzi. A love of history and that it was something different (along with a good supply of tight, growth cherry wood) drew Mr. Scelzi to recreate the George II Washstand. "It was a fragile piece and it looked interesting, I just felt good about it.”
Mr. Scelzi’s grandfather turned over the woodworking business to Nicholas, which he ran for 40 years until its closure in 1996.
Mr. Scelzi served in the military at 18. In 1952, he completed his woodworking apprenticeship at the age of 35. Nicholas settled in Lisbon, NY in 1999 after living in North Glens Falls, NY and Florida.
Nicholas Scelzi’s work (1100 – 1200 pieces) is drawn from original pieces made from the1500’s to the turn of the 20thcentury. Approximately four pieces of furniture are made each year. Mr. Scelzi is comfortable making furniture from the Renaissance Era not only because it is profitable but because it is the "only period in history when furniture had quality.” The design and building work involved tedious hours of hand carving.
Mr. Scelzi was prompted by Wes Stitt, Trustee Emeritus of the Frederic Remington Art Museum, to speak to Ed LaVarnway, Executive Director of the Frederic Remington Art Museum regarding the possibility of displaying the replica at the Museum.
The washstand is on display in the Administrative Offices parlor at 311 Washington Street. "The piece is beautiful and the office building houses antiques of various eras making it a perfect fit” said Museum Executive Director Ed LaVarnway.
Mr. Scelzi is already thinking about his next piece. In his spare time, Nicholas enjoys fishing.
