CALL TO ARTISTS:
2017 Members' Juried Art Exhibit
OGDENSBURG, NY - The Frederic Remington Art Museum will hold its 2017 Members' Juried Art Exhibit May 20 – September 27, 2017.
In the 2017 Members' Juried Art Exhibit, the museum's member artists are invited to submit up to three digital photos of their art. Open to artists everywhere, one work from each artist is guaranteed acceptance. This exhibit is the museum’s most inclusive juried art exhibit; every artist gets at least one work in the show. It’s during the museum’s peak tourist season, so gets maximum exposure.
The theme for the 2017 Members' Juried Art Exhibit is Reflection. The relationship between submitted art and the theme may be creative and inspired, and need not be literal. Last year’s Members’ exhibit featured 66 participating artists, and was one of the finest juried art exhibits we’ve held, thanks to our wonderful member artists and juror Catherine Tedford. We hope to build on this success in 2017.
We are very pleased this year to have the discernment of accomplished painter Anne Swiderski, who has exhibited with us in the past, as juror. Swiderski was born in Montreal and grew up living on the outskirts of a small northern town in Ontario where rivers, bogs and marshes cut through large tracts of boreal forest, which left deep impressions on her. She attended the Ottawa School of Art and Ottawa University, and has exhibited locally, in Montreal, and in New York State. Her paintings can be found in private collections mainly across Canada, but also in the United States and in Germany. She has had artworks purchased by the Government of Canada and local government, and has won several awards, both jury’s and members’ choice. Swiderski states “I use colour, form and shape as a visual dance. When I paint I travel to an inner place of intensity and vibrancy to express nature’s perfect beauty. I feel very connected to nature, but not as something outside of myself. It’s a feeling of coming home, of immersing myself in life energy, and in the living perfection that it creates.” www.anneswiderski.com
The juror chooses from digital representations of up to three artworks, and also awards prizes for “best in show,” 2nd and 3rd place. A “Public’s Choice” award will be chosen by visitor ballots cast throughout the exhibition. The prize, a framed print of Frederic Remington’s White Wings 1894, will go to the winner.
An artist who is not yet a museum member may join with their entry into the exhibit. The deadline for submission of digital images, payment and information at www.fredericremington.org or via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or on CD, entry form and payment is April 11th. The exhibit opens with a reception on Saturday, May 20th, and will remain on view through September 17th. Works in the exhibit may be offered for sale, with one third of the price benefiting the museum.
